Packing tips/don't leave home without
Keep the communication lines open!
Often at times, while travelling in different time zones, it may be difficult to connect with loved ones over the phone, try emailing family members while away or set up free email accounts (Yahoo, Hotmail, Google, Gmail) and visit local Internet Cafes and use their Skype facilities, this is a much more cost effective option to using your mobile phone or local landline options.
Stay healthy
While travelling, it is very important to be rested and healthy, whether your trip is for business or pleasure. Time zone changes and variances in temperature can add to the likelihood of sickness while travelling. Be sure to take a daily vitamin, wash your hands often, cut down on smoking and alcohol consumption, get at least 7 hours of sleep each night and drink plenty of water. These are just a few tips to help keep you healthy and happy during your next excursion.
Make a list, check it twice
As you prepare to leave on a much needed vacation or important business trip, first make a list. You do not want to arrive at your destination, or realise on the plane, that you have forgotten a pertinent item, that you cannot live without. As you get ready the day before, list the daily necessities. Throughout the day, keep a record of what you will need to bring with you. This will greatly decrease frustration levels and help you to concentrate on other planning duties without anxiety. Many hotels offer "Forget something" items like toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, and other amenities but most home comfort items can now be found in shops and supermarkets around the island.
Pack smart
Are you packing your whole wardrobe in a suitcase larger than your dresser? If so, consider going through your items and only bring the things that you really NEED. Packing your belongings in a smaller suitcase will make travelling much less cumbersome. Roll your clothes instead of folding them. Tuck socks and other small items into shoes. If you have items that wrinkle, consider packing a few light weight plastic hangers. Always include plastic bags for items that may spill or damage clothing.
Be prepared
Airlines are rarely serving meals on flights these days, so be sure to pack at least a snack to bring with you. Or, if you will be flying during meal - time, rather than partake in the mediocre airline food offered, pick something up in the terminal or bring a packed lunch from home. This way you will never be disappointed with peanuts for dinner!
