In the last 2 weeks we have completed a number of site improvements.

We have linked our main style sheet to our WYSIWYG text editor. So now when you are updating a Premium business listing, adding events etc you can set the heading text to match our site and all the text will as well. You can have your own colour scheme if you prefer.

LIKE AND DISLIKE

This has been added to events, the about to be launched discount feature, listings etc. 

CLAIM YOUR BUSINESS

We have added a feature where you can now claim a business. When you see your business and claim, you create a new account, and when it is activated by us then your business will be automatically added to the account so you can update at in the future. 

ACCOUNT SECTION

We have improved the process for creating a new account. And improved the top right nav bar

The account section has been also improved. You can add new premium and free listings to your account, the list shows premiumat the top and more statistics including click to your facebook, twitter etc.

FEATURED ON FACEBOOK

We have done some internal improvements.  All new premium listings are added to the list to be featured on Facebook. We fixed a bug where listings that were inactive or not paid were not properly recorded in the database, so when then rectivated they were not on the Facebook feature list.

We have improved the pdf system and image systems.

We have done more work to standadise our site so it looks good in Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer. Thats to all those who poiint out differences so we can fix it.

We check in all the browsers all new features now as a matter of course.

We have added arrows to our nav system to highlight which items have extended menus. Some people were unaware just how much information we had on Finding Cyprus.

We have made a improvement to our events system. Now you can list a event or website that is ongoing rather than a fixed date. You choose yes for the ongoing box, and enter the date you want the listing to run until.

All events are listed free and featured here to over 2100 friends.

Like and dislike a business listing

For years websites have allowed you to like items. And for years people have wanted a dislike button on Facebook but they won't do it!!

So we have decided to try it. Not only can you like and dislke a joke now you can also like and dislike a premium business listing!! We have custom icons on the pages now, just click and your preference is recorded!

The Ip address of your computer is recorded agains the like/dislike so we can monitor and make sure people are not abusing the system.

We will monitor this new feature and perhaps will display the popular sites.

We have added a new feature where our premium listings can now show their Logo in their listing. A logo will be shown in the box to the right of the main picture for only the lsitings with a logo.

WHen we add a Premium ad we either leave the free advert or add one so your business will appear in both sections for maximun exposure.

IF someone finds and look at the free listing then a snapshot of the premium listing appears at the top so the visitor can see that there is a preium listing adn then visit the full premium listing.

We have improved the ability to check to see if you are listed and to upgrade or update you listing if you are already on Finding Cyprus.

We are at almost 2800 listings and still adding almost daily. It is free to add your listing and we are now advertising on Facebook as well. Our aim is to hit 5,000 in 2012 BUT we want the listings to be as accurate as possible.

We are going throught the listings to check the details and update but you can now easily search before you add your listings.

We have completed work on our internal site search functions.

Now you can go to any of the region pages or all cyprus page and search for a business by name, the business ID.

You can also choose to search by categories and on the region pages and or by towns. The search paramenters work to gether so you can say choose restuarants and then say Tomb of the kings on the paphos page and it will show the results.

Once you have chosen a set of search paramaters then you can browse forward and back, sort by various options and it will remember the choices you made.

We have added a new feature to promote our listings on Facebook.

Most days we make a list of all the premium listings that are active and paid and at random we choose one to be featured on our facebook profile to almost 2200 people and growing daily.

When we have chosen that listing we mark it and the next time we choose that one is not included. When all the listings have been featured then we start again.

This means all our premium listings get the same level of exposure on a random basis.

We are also doing the same for the free listings but they will not feature so often on Facebook and we will only feature ones that have a good level of information on the listings.

What should you do????

If you are listed for free then complete more on your listing so it can be shown. OR upgrade to a full premium listing and get shown more often!!

If you already have a premium listing then just site back and enjoy another add on for free from Finding cyprus!!!

You can either add them direct form your youtube account or we can add them to our special Finding Cyprus Yourtube account and then they will be on your listing.

This also allows further search engine coverage and for people to see you video on youtube and then want to see your listing on Finding Cyprus!

We have started our new media section for premium listings.

We now have the facility where businesses can upload PDF documents, these can be brochures, menu's flyers infact any kind of Pdf.

When a user view the business listing these will appear in the new media section above the images on the listings.

We now have 8 sitelinks in Google!!

Sitelinks are the special links Google puts under  immportant website. Type "Finding Cyprus" into Google and we will be listed 1st with the sitelinks under our details.

Sitelinks cannot be bought, or influenced in any way unlike some other parts of the search engine system, Google has added the main pages for our regions and the Cyprus Serch page as well.

This shows the importance out site now has we hope more sitelnks will follow soon.

We have installed a new navigation system on the left of our website. Due to the large amount of information we now have on our site we felt it was time to improve access to this.

Now we have a "New Stuff" section at the top for the latest items, and info, travel and more sections where you can easily find the information you need

Wow what a day, full of fun, entertainment and smiles with something for everyone. The turnout was brilliant and throughout the day we had a steady flow of music lovers of all tastes and people happy to show their support for such a great cause.

The day started with a few songs from Cold Shot to warm up the crowd and get the mood flowing. I am a big fan of Cold Shot and love their refreshing mix of rock and blues that is somewhat missing from the Paphos entertainment circuit, if not the whole of Cyprus.

Next up was Peter Laytock, with his beautiful twin necked guitar, performing classic tracks from the 60’s and 70’s. Peter always makes a crowd smile with his soulful tunes and got extra applause from the extremely appreciative audience as due to his own illness this is a cause close to his heart.

Then we had Groovejet to get the party into full swing with their ‘holiday special’ show and you realise why they go down such a storm with the holidaymakers. Jezebel and Paul performed dance-a-long tunes from pop bands of the 80’s, 90’s and more and they did a great job of getting the audience to participate and sing-a-long.

The day was now in full flow and the band of the event (for me) has to be Cold Shot but we loved the sounds from Hitched, with their energetic renditions of classic and modern rock they certainly raised the roof and by this time everyone was dancing, singing and tapping their feet, I know I will certainly be looking to see them play again.

The day was closed with more classics from Cold Shot, these lads certainly know how to get the crowd rockin’ with Stammy, Andre and Sergie leaving us all wanting more, and an emotional encore had to be done.   A special guest performance with the boy’s from Howard Benson (who also played with the late great Gary Moore) was breathtaking and certainly got the audience’s attention.

When ‘A Little Help From My Friends’ was performed, obviously with Alethea in mind, the emotion was surely felt and there were a few tears from the crowd.

With music, tombola, beer, candy floss, hotdogs and sweets galore it was certainly a family day out that will be hard to beat and with all profits going to a great cause what more could you ask for?

The day was more than just a music charity event, all that came with their support had a whale of a time and by the end of the day a mass of supporters helped get the sports hall back to its original state and ready for the next basket ball game. All the carpets had been stored, chairs and tables restacked and not a single bit of litter had been left, a big thank you has to go to all the volunteers for the time and effort that went in to making this a huge success.

A very special thank you has to go all that helped but more so to Lyndsey England for organising the event and special mention to Daniel, Brian, John (Axis), Ali, Ian and Stammy.

The event raised a whopping €2,950.00

We have improved out navigation bar on the left of the website with a new flyout one.

As we now have so much information and business listings on our site it was gettng difficult to see it all. So the new system is in headings and then it flys out to show more detail. We are increasing and sorting all the pages on the site so it will be easier to find the depth of information and therefore the page you are intersted in.

We have launched our nee Gallery of Cyprus Photos!

We previously reported initial success in Google. We are pleased to report that as of 12-1-2011 we now have 7266 pages on our website submitted to the Search engines and Google has 4782 pages included in its index.

We are very pleased with the increase in these figures in less than 2 months. Our site is auto generating and submitting sitemaps twice a week so new content is included very quickly

We have now added the feature where all free listings can now show their website and email address.

Clicks from our website are counted so this can be monitored. And messages send from our website will include a small message to show the listings was seen on Finding Cyprus.

We feel this improvement will benefit all website users as they will have access to more information.

We have now added a section with flight and airport information.

This has direct links to the departures and arrival websites for both the Larnaca and Paphos airports and links to the current airline lists.

After some work last week on our internal sitemaps and using the new search engine system we are pleased to report our new site after just over 1 month now has 1,444 indexed pages in Google!!

We create sitemaps on our server on a very regular basis and they are submitted to the search engines automatically. This means new listings and content are then available to the search engines as quickly as possible.  Currently our sitemap has over 6,7000 pages and to have 1,444 in Google after such a short time is excellent progress.

The plan is that we get new information to potential users as soon as possible. We monitor the site maps for dead links and currently have no errors.  We also know that the search engine bots are visiting our site extremely often.

We aim to make the site as easy and as up to date as we can for users and the best value for money for our businesses.

We have released the first Beta version of our new website search engine.

It works much like any normal search engine, you type, it can suggest and you click and it shows the results. So it is easy and fast to use.

Currently it contains over 6,400 links and almost 9,000 keywords. We are adding to the information stored for our free links in the next 2 weeks and this will greatly increase it's effectiveness.

We have made internal changes ready for the launch of the new search system.

Some changes have been made to the keywords and title tags of the pages, links and pictures partly to make the user experience easier and to improve the quality of the listings detail in our search engine and also the data added to our sitemap to improve the detail in the search engines.
 

We are in the final testing of the new search system and currently it holds over 5,000 links & data pages and 13,000 keywords. This will grow as we improve the details on the free listings.

We have now added the facility where free listings now have their own page. We are improving the layout of these pages in the next few days.
 

The idea is to give good exposure for the free listings so users will be able to see and find them. We will be adding information to the listings about the types of business and adding keywords but this will take a few days as we have almost 2,000 free listings currently on the site.

We have installed a WYSIWYG editor. This is the acronym for "What you see is what you get" This now means that users can fully edit their business descriptions.

You can add colour, change the size and appearance of the fonts, add pictures - in fact it is like using any major word processor. You type, you change and you can see it before you save.
